Finding Out Why Are You Overweight, So You Can Start Living A Happier Life

You may have already recognized that you have a weight problem, but have you ever taken time to question the actual reason why are you overweight? It may surprise you, but people put on extra pounds for a variety of different reasons. Finding out the underlying cause can put you back on track to a happier, healthier life.

Perhaps, when you think of why are you overweight, you stick to the main theory that if you take in more than you burn off, you will develop excess fat and extra pounds. That is, in simplistic form, quite true. However, to truly understand your weight problem, you need to find what is triggering the weight gain. Most people all have the exact same choices in food found at restaurants and grocery stores, so why isn’t everyone overweight? This is the key to finding and reversing the cause of your problem.

Some people have become overweight due to a sedentary lifestyle. Perhaps they work behind a desk 40 hours per week, come home mentally drained and spend time unwinding in front of the television. After that, they go off to bed. In this lifestyle, there is very little activity going on. If you feel you don’t overeat and cannot understand why you are so heavy, one simple reason that answers why are you overweight could be that you just need more activity in your life. This doesn’t have to be joining a gym. Just get up from your desk at work and walk outside during breaks, walk up and down your stairs at home. Weight gain, when not overeating, can be reversed by revving up your metabolism and burning off the calories you consumed each day.

For other people, weight gain is directly due to eating too much food and is more of an addiction than a necessity. Just like people who partake in many bad habits, turning to food could be a sign that you are in need of emotional and mental support. It isn’t hard to see why are you overweight, if you continue to turn to food as an emotional crutch. This is common when people are going through tremendous stress, relationship trouble and/or depression. If you eat until it hurts, even when you aren’t hungry, seeking a counselor can help you learn tools to stop turning to food for happiness.

Some individuals don’t continually eat, but they do eat the wrong foods each day. If you stick with pure, natural foods such as protein, dairy and fresh fruits and vegetables, you would be surprised how much you could actually eat without gaining a pound. However, when people merely look at calorie counts and ignore the fact that they are ingesting unhealthy carbohydrates and snack foods all day, which quickly cause excess fat and weight gain, they are destined to put on the pounds. Keeping metabolism up by eating small, healthy meals full of protein and natural foods throughout the day will help keep your engine running and burning calories all day long.

As you can see, overweight people aren’t all the same. Some people eat for emotional reasons, some eat the wrong foods and some are too sedentary. If none of these scenarios sound like you, however, there could be a medical condition such as a thyroid problem that is impacting your metabolism. No matter what the cause is for your extra pounds, don’t just exclaim that you need to lose weight. You need to identify why are you overweight, then take steps to improve and change that part of your life.
